Project Winter Review (crismoose)
I really wanted to like this game, but unfortunately it seems to be full of super toxic players. I dont think I've ever been harassed as much in a game as I have playing Project Winter. And I play Rust lol.
TW (harassment) below:
Game play in Project Winter really benefits from you having a mic - being able to talk in game helps facilitate team work (which is essential if you want to win). In almost every game I joined, talking in game just resulted in me getting chased around by other players going on and on about how they wanted to rape and kill me irl . And if I managed to find a game where it wasn't happening to me, it was happening to another player.
So what? I'm used to dealing with slurs and other harassment in online games with in game talk functions. The problem with Project Winter is that those harassing you have the ability to totally bully you out of the game. They don't just chase you around shouting slurs, they'll chase you around shouting slurs as they genuinely work together to try to kill your character off (even before they know whether you're a traitor or not) - and in a game based on teamwork that really doesn't make for an effective (not to mention fun) game.
The reporting system sucks which makes this problem worse. You can get reported for basically anything and there doesnt seem to be any verification system of reports made, so theres nothing stopping toxic players from reporting players they themselves are harassing. Even when I tried to kick out toxic players harassing me, typically no one joined me in doing so, meaning I ended up getting ganged up on by the toxic players and kicked from the game. If a brave soul did try to help me kick out the toxic players, the toxic players would just gang up and kick us both out first.
Say you're being harassed and just want to leave the game early because of it. Well, you'll still get temporarily timed-out as a consequence of leaving a match early. So you're punished even though you're the one being harassed. It sucks. And unlike a lot of other games theres really no way to avoid, ignore, or defend yourself against the harassment while still enjoying the game, because the nature of the game relies so heavily on teamwork and communication.
On top of that you also constantly have players getting upset that they're losing so they go and report you for playing the game well. Not to mention the people actually cheating by playing on call with each other. Overall: There seems to be a lot of toxic people playing this game and that makes it super not fun. And unless you have enough of your friends buy this game to fill up a lobby of your own, you have to play in a public lobby.
Not worth my time or money.
