Red Matter 2 Review (Vinny_L)
Story wise a similar affair as with the previous game but to be honest felt like a repeat.
Audio is good. Graphics nice to look at but just as in the movies nice fx/pictures are no longer special. But still there are some stunning vista's look at. What is a bit cheap is the trick to close blinders in rockets after liftoff to hide the immersion of travelling and then when "arriving" the open an voila some new planet.. a nice view but a bit old as a presentation trick.
Controls are kind of ok for index VR, but to be honest the constant need to swap and watch the slow animation becomes irritating very soon. Also the text messages decode is sooooooo tedious-slow, like looking at a first generation fax machine.. Then I have set the walking speed to the fastest and still it feels like moving in mud. The jump/trusters have been made stupidly short (I know its a game but if this was reality the total amount that you could use in one trust the engineer who made this would be replaced.) So doesn't make sense in this story universe
But then we reach where it all falls apart.. The shooting.. this weak ass/stupid Star trek NG blaster type that take 5 seconds for a shot to travel across a room and then in the middle of the shooting you have to cool down your gun.. Because of the slow blast travel you end up guessing instead of aiming to shoot. Short verdict on shooting implementation=fail.
Verdict, A flawed sequel to a masterful first game.

Reworked review 29-08 after the released fixes.
So the gun is fixed, apart from this cooling down mech as this is still a cheap way to balance. The games still looks good and sound fine. text decoding of messages is still tedious and actually doesn't make any sense that people would leave paper cards with a question and others cards with answers.. So still believe an actual diary function (voiced or not) would work better. story wise still the same (game 1 redux so you can see the twist a mile away) so the 1st game still wins.
