Shantae Review (Ebon)
An overall decent entry into the Shantae series, that tries something new by taking the main cast outside of Scuttle Town. Unfortunately however I feel like this game is lacking some of the series' usual charm. Some usual side characters are completely missing due to the change of locale, the ones who are present get very little screentime (except for Bolo), and the music isn't quite as great or memorable as that of The Pirate's Curse or Half-Genie Hero.
In regards to artstyle, gameplay and waifus however, this game definitely has the usual WayForward quality. I have read of players complaining about the lack of difficulty, so I started my first blind playthrough on the Definitive mode for some extra challenge. The Definitive mode was definitely more difficult than the past games, and wasn't until one of the last bosses that I truly caught up in terms of power.
All in all I can definitely recommend this game, but I would not place it above The Pirate's Curse or Half-Genie Hero. Let's see what WayForward can cook up next.
