Skater XL Review (Karamel)
I cannot, in good faith, recommend this game. With this game, what you are getting is essentially a skateboarding sandbox. Which sounds cool and all, but when you consider that most of this sandbox doesn't utilize any of the tools it should, the game feels miserable without modding, and the developers have been entirely silent for the past year, only adding in a few maps, which were made by the community anyways, and a paid cosmetic DLC to the game, updating the community after 6 months to say that new updates are 'coming soon.' I have no reason to believe that this game will continue to go in a good direction, as it had back when I bought it. I enjoyed the game when I played it, and yes, I have a lot of hours in this game, but that's why you should understand that this game is worth skipping the moment Skate 4 comes out. Session isn't much better, it's just a sandbox as well, but it is more of a sim, if that's your thing. Skater XL is a struggle bus, and their treatment of their community, refusal to listen to them, harsh treatment of one of the biggest modders of the game, updates that break all of the mods anyways(in the case that you were looking to mod.)
This game is fun, and you can enjoy it, I'm not saying that. But it's a very frustrating experience looking for such simple things as darkslides, and they JUST NOW tease them, slating to release them approximately *three years* after the game's 'official release', which has only 5 official maps, 2 of them being incredibly small, and one being essentially a test map. I'll continue to pass on this game until they add something meaningful to it, and then I may update this review. I haven't really reviewed things negatively before, but this review is entirely predicated on the fact that the community is what finishes this game, there is no actual vanilla experience, which even minecraft manages to accomplish, and had managed for the over 11 years of its existence.
