Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity Review (Tim)

The combat's wonky, it's confusing to navigate, and some of the mechanics are more opaque than I'd like. Onboarding is ROUGH. The RPG elements aren't balanced well. When I first played this game, I put it down after an hour in a huff.
But it lingered in my mind, so I picked up back up. it's a surprisingly absorbing game if you approach it with patience. Of all the Souls-likes on Steam you could play, this really captures that Fromsoft sense of adventure. You know, the initial disorientation, the reconciliation, that nervous feeling when you wander further and further from your respawn point and wonder how you're ever gonna get back to your corpse when you die... And suddenly you build a strong enough mental map that you're bolting through rooms to get where you need.
Expect what you get for the price, swallow a cheap death or two, maybe check a Steam community guide if you're stuck, and you'll have a dreadful, lovely time.
