Sniper Elite 4 Review

Storyline

The Sniper Elite games usually take place during the WWII Era that involved the German Nazis & the infamous Fuhrer Adolf Hitler. Your main objective is always to hinder the German infantry & overthrow the Germans.
All of the Sniper Elite games that have been released so far seem to have the same character as the Main Protagonist. An S.O.E sniper 2nd Lieutenant named “Karl Fairburne”. I was surprised when I found out all the parts had the same protagonist since I didn’t expect that in a game like this.
The game’s base plot goes something like this:
To free Italy from Fascism, Karl Fairburne was dispatched to Italy in 1943. Aside from that, Karl must prevent the Axis forces from using a new weapon that may put an end to the Allied resistance to the Axis Powers even before it gets started... As well as having to deal with an anonymous foe and an Italian resistance commander who distrusts the Allies.
I was too indulged in the gameplay to care about the story. But for real though, they’ve put in a lot of effort to craft this plot. And yeah, don’t expect it to be historically accurate.
Gameplay Mechanics
Oh my god, this game has so many things to it that I don’t know where to start! They invested so much in making the sniper mechanics as legit as possible. To make things easier for both of us, let me break down each vital gameplay part in this game into different segments!
Core Gameplay
Well, the name of the game makes it very obvious. You play as a militant who happens to possess a sniper rifle as their primary weapon. Snipers are good for long-range & stealthy combat. But this doesn’t mean that you are forced to take that approach since you also have two secondary weapons which can be used in close & mid-range combat. In addition to this, you can perform environmental takedowns, which just adds more ways to kill your victims.
Unlike some of its previous parts, this game has an open-world characteristic to it. You have free reign on how you want to approach the given objective. Most of the objectives involve taking out Nazis or deactivating/destroying stuff. The game currently has 8 missions that are included in the base game & 4 more missions that come as DLCs. That’s a lot of content & it takes over 10 hours to finish the game.
Weapons
The weapon mechanics in this game are just chef’s kiss. Every shot is so satisfying. To make killing more fun, they’ve improved their X-RAY Kill Cam. You can literally see the body pass through the person, destroying the bones & organs it touches. It’s a very sadistic satisfaction that you get.
Depending on the difficulty you choose, the sniper mechanics will differ. The easiest difficulty will make shooting a bit too easy since it eliminates all the factors that affect your bullet from reaching its target. But on the hardest difficulty, the sniper mechanics become almost realistic. You need to put in a lot of thought before shooting your shot. So many factors come into play including wind speed, wind direction, hand stability, heart-beat, bullet drop, etc. This ramps up the difficulty a lot.
Difficulty Levels
The game has 4 difficulty levels which offer completely different experiences. This adds a lot to the game’s replayability factor & offers a challenge to those who seek one.
Visuals & Audio
Even if the game had shitty visuals, I am sure it would’ve become popular for its detailed & precise gameplay. Lucky for us, the game has amazing visuals accompanying its fabulous gameplay. The level of detail put into everything shows us how passionate the developers were. You can legit feel the love the devs put into making this game. My most favorite part in the visual aspect is the X-ray kill cams. It feels satisfying to know where your bullet hits. The anatomic & gorey visualization of your bullet puncturing organs & breaking bones gives you sadistic pleasure.

Pros

The game picks off the storyline from its previous parts. It’s pretty interesting although the gameplay is the main charm of the game.
The weapon mechanics are almost realistic. (Well, it depends on the difficulty mode you choose)
There are 4 different difficulty modes that give you completely different experiences. You can also make a custom difficulty mode by altering the difficulty of various aspects of the game. This adds a lot to the replayability rate of the game.
The game has an open-world setting which gives you a lot of freedom. You can plan your approach for a mission as per your wish.
You have a lot of options when choosing your weapons for a mission. This allows you to choose particular weapons depending on the setting of the mission & the playstyle you want to follow.
The feature that caught my eyes was the X-Ray Kill Cam. It’s so gorey & satisfying. It makes killing enemies more interesting as where you shoot actually matters.

Cons

To be fair, I don’t think the game has any cons. Well, this is my view. It may be different from other people’s perspectives.

Conclusion

This game satisfied my love for sniper rifles. If you’re up for an ultimate sniping challenge, then go ahead & grab this game. Make sure to play it in the Authentic difficulty mode. Is it worth the price? Definitely! But the DLCs are a bit too overpriced. I suggest you buy the game along with the Season pass during a sale. This will guarantee you a full-fledged experience of what the game has to offer.
