Software Inc. Review (mo)
this game has a way of sucking you into the management, it's almost a Sims-like trance
there's a lot of depth to this game, so much so, i have 55 hours at the time of writing and i have only explored 1/4 of the game + i haven't even touched mods
the gameplay value of this game is probably 4x the amount you're buying it for right now in early access
now, that being said:
i feel like as amazing this game is, it's insane depth, detail, and what everything it covers spreads itself a bit thin as far as progression is concerned
on easy, with one day a month, with 4 founders, i even seem to hit a wall (either by losing money / reputation because i couldn't keep up on the fastest speed or really just getting bored)
the beginning stages of your company's life isn't really making your own software (90% contract work) and the later stages are a slog because you want to aim to be self-sustainable by not relying on publishers but it's very time consuming to do so (marketing takes too long unless you have a dedicated marketing team and micromanaging each team is not very fun)
i haven't explored all the gameplay features so i could easily be missing that one setting or one technique that makes this all entirely a-ok again, but i really wish there was more autonomy with teams / employees.
another thing imo is how punishing this game is if you don't do bonds or stocks, you could lose an entire PLAYTHROUGH worth if you don't manually save often with how the autosaves are handled (i wish they would make multiple autosaves states so that you could pick the one before messing up), which really demotivates me to play more
this game is one of the best management games i've ever played and i only hope it gets better, may update my review if anything fixes or i have a change in experience
EDIT: after figuring out the project management tab i can say confidently that my experience has been enhanced but i'm still hitting that brick wall somewhere in terms of progression. this game i think suffers a lot from feature creep.
