Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Review (FawnFiction.net)
This is a very shaky recommendation.
If you're going to have a positive experience with this game, it's going to wholly depend on what you want out of it.
I got this game for the native Steam Deck support and it runs like a dream. I didn't experience online multiplayer back in the day (played Instant Action and splitscreen nonstop on the PS2), and the singleplayer is just as I remember. Instant Action is still a blast, especially when you turn up the number of NPCs. The bonus maps and heroes are a welcome enough addition, and it's great to finally have Steam achievements (probably the only person to care about that, I reckon)!
At the end of the day, it's still Battlefront, and I still love these games to pieces. I got exactly what I wanted out of this release.
However, if you're outside my "bubble" of needs, you're definitely better off getting the original PC version of Battlefront 1 and 2. Better online multiplayer (which I wasn't even able to test in this version because all the servers are barren), better mod support... and it's also still Battlefront.
Not all bugs/technical issues have been fixed in this version, either. Right now the most glaring one to me is the incorrect pitching of certain sound effects and voice lines. The victory theme is pitched too low and it bothers me.
There's also the price. This game is not worth the $35. Even when it was on sale, it's still a pricey bugger. It's a duology of old games with some extra bonus content. The AI-upscaled textures don't really add anything. I would've preferred a simple resolution increase and nothing more, especially if it meant a less meaty install. The graphics did NOT need to be touched.
TLDR: I recommend the Battlefront Classic Collection if you're:
- Playing on Steam Deck
- Only going to do singleplayer or splitscreen
- An achievement hunter
- ... idk man I just woke up
Otherwise, you have better, cheaper options.
