Super Dungeon Maker Review (Plati#726)

As a rabid enjoyer of Nintendo's Mario Maker 2 (I made an entire 8 world set of levels) this game has quickly become an equal obsession.

Super Dungeon Maker is an underdog with a chicken as its protagonist. Entering the ring for the very first time, and seemingly out of nowhere Super Dungeon Maker easily knocks out every contender in the level builder genre especially among other dungeon builders.
Super Dungeon Maker relies on its bouncy, colorful, retro graphics, and beginner friendly UI to clear itself a place in the genre. There are many different themes you can give your levels, there's sure to be something you like. A decent set of power-ups can turn the most perilous levels into cake walks or your very own Metroidvania. A large roster of original enemies and fresh takes on tropes also make their way into this builder.

But unfortunately just like any underdog that enters the ring they're bound to have bruises.
Super Dungeon Maker relies on no pre-existing IP giving a lot of flexibility which it is able to harness to some extent. But sadly as I see it this gem is yet unpolished, a large rough cut emerald without shine. Many enemies you may expect to find in the level editor are simply absent or are unable to have a trait edited to make them perfect for your level. Another strange absence is the lack of magic or ranged attacks or even weapon variety. Between the pitiful two characters you can play as both are stuck with the same simple sword that only boasts only two attacks.

In conclusion, Super Dungeon Maker has done great carving out a space in the genre with its graphics and UI alone my only hope is that it can fill the space. Also play it, it's fun!

(P.S. And there should be at least a spear and a bow)
