Syberia: The World Before Review (Emerald)
I've been playing "Syberia" ever since I was 4 years old. My dad was the first to introduce me to this amazing game, who later turned into a small franchise. I've grown with it and I cannot see myself without it. I became very dear to my heart.
I just started playing the fourth (and maybe last?) part today and while I haven't explored everything yet, I've already managed to cry a handful of times, both from nostalgia and from grief. I cannot believe Benoit Sokal is no longer among us. However, I'll always remember him as the creator of the game that made my childhood better and sweeter.
"Syberia" never ceased to surprise the players with its graphics, puzzles and storyline. In my opinion, these are the characteristics that make "Syberia" franchise stand out. Each game takes place inside a unique universe, where the main focus is on the little details, and "Syberia: The World Before" is not an exception. The views are breathtaking and the voice acting is unmatched! I somehow wish I were able to play this game with a VR headset; although, I'm not sure if I'd ever leave such (digital) place, heh.
Short update: I finished "Syberia: The World Before". Such a touchy story! The graphics, the camera angles, the storyline... Spectacular! In addition, the political aspect was something I didn't see coming, but I appreciated it a lot, because it made sense for Dana's arc.
In contrast to the dark nature of events, I had a good laugh whenever Oscar was interacting with Kate. I'd've never thought he'd make a comeback, let alone as a hedgehog. Brilliant idea!
However, what I didn't particularly enjoyed was how apologetic Kate acted towards Olivia in the end. Her friend didn't deserve it, especially since she had had an affair with Kate's fiancee in the first game, who later married in the protagonist's absence.
All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend this game to everybody who enjoys playing story-rich games with lots of puzzles. I, personally, am thankful I can replay it two more times, because I've missed a couple of side missions by rushing the game in the beginning. Furthermore, the ending is highly "syberian-esque" and it perfectly reflects Kate's true personality and her deepest desires.
