Teardown Review (cλLæyo)
The most exhilarating destruction game I've ever experienced - not just by a little bit, by a country mile. Teardown is a top-tier, elite physics game that intertwines problem solving and brute force. The maps are well designed, the assortment of tools and vehicles available are very creative, the engine and voxel environment is sensational. Everything is well executed and performs smoothly - no issues, no crashes, no complaints whatsoever.
It is so fun. I had wrongly assumed this was (just) a sandbox experience but what has really impressed me right from the beginning is the campaign mode. I won't spoil anything for you, but you'll be tasked with assignments of mixed legitimacy that involve looting, heist planning and item acquiring. It does this in a way that keeps you entertained, immersed & constantly wanting to do 'just one more mission'.
My perception of working against a time limit in games is often negative, but this is what makes the missions on Teardown magic. Having to craft your own route through a map, to collect 5 or 6 different objects, within the space of 60 seconds? It gives the perfect reason to destroy everything that stands in your path of completion. It is a very clever game. The numerous times I've been less than a second away from completing a mission and I've had to go back to the drawing board on what to finesse!
Along with the campaign you get a stellar sandbox experience, steam workshop connected to thousands of mods to test and trial, and even the first DLC campaign absolutely free. And challenges. Steam workshop is wonderful - not only is their a tonne of guns to use but people have spent time creating brilliant maps. Within a few minutes of perusing and downloading from the store, I found myself being chased by a T-Rex & King Kong through the streets of New York. Next I was inside an AT-AT and staring at the Millenium Falcon on a SW inspired map.
An absolute no brainer from me and one that I'll keep installed for a long, long time. Couldn't recommend it any higher. Get it.
PS. The achievements are great fun and another added component to complete once you finish the campaign.
