The Crush House Review (The Evil Soultaker)
I was actually excited to play this game, as the idea of essentially being the one filming one of those cheesy reality TV shows was an interesting concept.
However the execution leaves a lot to be desired. For example, there's a lot of "generic dialogue" that is just reused throughout the game. Essentially just changing around a few wording here and there to fit with each character's "personalities". (i.e making the "discord moderator" guy say "kitten" at the end of every sentence when referring to a lover). There not a lot of actual specific dialogue that pertains to certain cast members or their dynamic with each other.
Which is just... Lame. Like I get that the idea is supposed to be "le epic deep and metaphorical story about the tv industry and how they manufacture these actors with 0 personality" or whatever but it's like it doesn't make for entertaining gameplay when you see the same repeated dialogue over and over again. (which I wouldn't be surprised if they literally just lazily used chatGPT to generate a lot of the dialogue with how generic it really is ngl)
Another thing that is missing is there's no like interview system, multiple cameras, maybe like microphones, or other equipment to give the feel of this house being specifically a "set"
I also really think this game would've been a lot better with voice acting, a lot of the jokes fall flat since you're not able to read everything the actors are saying because you're too focused on getting shots to boost viewers. (Which may be the point they were going for, but I still feel like that effect can be achieved with voice acting)
Ok but all this complaining has been about the aesthetic and character stuff. What about the gameplay? Well... It's lame, you kinda just go around get in good angles that'll get the most "likes" from one of the randomly selected target audiences. There's no way to "anger" or turn away a specific audience other than just not doing what they want. A lot of the stuff that results in them liking you is through buying the various props around the set but the only way to gain money is through ads (which are done by just not filming).
Why couldn't there be alternative ways of making money? Why not like product placement, I.e film a character drinking a specific soda or something and you'll gain some money from that or keep a company logo in frame and you'll gain a small but steady amount of income through that?
Idk, all in all like the game's concept is novel and I like the idea. But its execution is just lame. It kinda reminds me of a less in depth version of the game "House Party" with less character, no voice acting, a lame filming mechanic, and less funny moments.
