The Legend of Tianding Review (Gwynbleidd)
This is a very charming game with a ton of style that I mostly enjoyed. The combat is relatively simplistic, but can have some depth if you really want to engage with it and get crazy. The story isn't anything that's going to tear your heart out or have you bust a gut over how funny it is, but the characters are charming and generally enjoyable lighthearted. It's quite a short game, 6 chapters that you could easily knock out in an afternoon. My total playtime says 8.5 hours, but I definitely had a few times where I was sitting in the menu while being distracted by other things so my total playtime is probably closer to 6 hours.
My only two complaints with the game are that some of the side quests are frustratingly vague, which is made even more frustrating by the fact that since this game is so unknown, there aren't any good guides for 100%ing it online. For example, there's a side quest that tasks you with retrieving some wine for the quest giver from the sewers. You might think that this is from the lootable chests that you can find, but no! It's an item drop from a specific enemy (that funnily enough, can be found later after the sewers, so you could theoretically get this outside of the sewer area). There is no indication in the game that this is how you acquire the wine, and there's a few side quests like this. So unless you happen to luck into getting the item, good luck finding help online for it.
The other minor complaint is that the ending of the game feels pretty abrupt. You fight the final boss and then within 2 minutes the game is over and I didn't love how it was resolved.
Overall though, I think those are pretty minor complaints. If you just stick to the main story you won't have the issue with the side quests (or maybe you'll get lucky and get the items without realising that you've gotten them). The story/characters are incredibly charming and lighthearted, and for the most part this game is just a fun romp. I don't know how big the team was, but it feels like a game made by a small and loving team that just wanted to make something special. Definitely worth $20!
