The Room Review (𝐎𝐌𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐍)
MY RATING:

9 / 10
What happens if you buy games without actually looking at them first? You quickly assume something different than it actually is.
Because of the title, I assumed that The Room was some kind of survival game or something in the direction of an escape room. In that case, I was totally wrong and immediately remembered the saying โwho can read has a clear advantageโ.
No, not that it's bad, not at all. On the contrary. In the end it was a positive surprise for me.
What is The Roomโฆ
I would describe it as a kind of mystery physics puzzle game in which you have to open complex puzzle boxes. These puzzle boxes are all designed and constructed differently and often have secret compartments, hidden switches and various mechanisms to be found. The goal is to get inside the box. The puzzles to be solved are always varied and quite challenging.
Most of the puzzles can be solved in any order, even if they are connected. Required objects, some of which are obtained by solving puzzles, are displayed in an inventory bar at the edge of the screen. You can, and some should, examine these objects to get more information. In addition, there is a kind of infrared view available with which you can (must) make hidden elements or clues visible.
Visually, the game is really pretty.
The individual boxes are really lovingly designed, with engravings and other small details, and the background usually has a very atmospheric effect due to the play of light and shadow. Unfortunately, it sometimes lacks details and the game is a bit too dark in some places.
I would put the playing time at around two to four hours, depending on how you play it and how well you progress.
The scope is quite manageable with 5 different puzzle boxes, whereby chapters 3 and 4 build on each other and chapter 4 is less of a puzzle box, but I think that's still quite ok.
Here's a quick look at a few of the individual (unsolved) puzzle boxes:

All in all, I think The Room is a really successful game that I really enjoyed with the varied and quite different puzzles.
