The Rumble Fish 2 Review (dreadead)

A cult classic fighting game that was originally released during the "Dark Ages" of fighting games by the OG SNK Team now under "Dimps" right before SF4 revived the FGC which you could argue at the time was on life support.

This port when it released here on Steam was unfortunately completely botched from the pricing including the DLC monetization, bare bones touch ups for PC play, and things like the stages not having arcade perfect spacing in 16:9 so certain combos wouldn't work as they should. I mean you could argue at least there's rollback so online play is decent (If you could get matches here lol). But this seems like a lesson in how not to release/re-release a fighting game. Now RF2 is sitting at a "Mostly Negative" rating and has been left to dry. I will commend the devs for at least addressing most of the problems if you look at the series of patches they released over time, and finally marking down the MSRP down to 14.99 USD and the DLC characters at .99 cents a pop. How the game is listed today is how it should have been on launch, but it's too little too late in a way. Now the default place to play if you want to run sets is fightcade. Glad this exists even though it was sadly DOA, but hopefully this is a learning lesson for everyone involved. I think for fighting game devs they should really run a public early access period for players to test and then during that time get feedback and fix any issues/add certain highly requested features/QoL before doing a true "official"/Final release when trying to bring back old games like The Rumble Fish 2. This is just my 2 cents.

Conclusion - Cult Classic from the "Dark Ages" of the FGC that everyone who likes fighting games should try, unique cast and system mechanics. Cool yet sometimes uncanny character animations. Completely botched release by the publisher and devs that destroyed any momentum this official port could have had, but the most important issues seem to be fixed now including the pricing. Unless some notable FGC streamer tries to revive this official release fightcade is the only way to get online matches now and for the foreseeable future.
