TheHunter: Call of the Wild - Weapon Pack 1 Review (✞ 50 Caliber ✞)
I would like to give this more of a middle thumb, but all things considered its made me sway to a thumb up.
Virant .22LR Semi-Automatic Rifle: Very straight forward, practically no recoil, its an effective gun for hunting small game at long range(including fowl). With the release of the .22 handgun in the 3rd gun pack this guns taken the back seat for varmint hunting. The new handgun(once mounted with the scope) is a much better close range gun with a faster rate of fire. The only real purpose for this gun is now purely long range hunting(rabbits can be easily snuck up on so only really good for coyote).
Crosspoint CB-165: This bow is the only reason this pack is worth a buy. Its the best bow in the game, with ammo types for most small to medium game, but i found using the high penetration bolts I was able to take down several water buffalo. Parred with a scope, the Crosspoint outshines any other silent weapon. It has pretty good range, however the scope dots arent clear on the range and leave you unsure how high to aim to compensate for the bolt drop. Its very quiet, and I was able to kill an elk as my buddy snuck up an a pronghorn about 200 yards away without it hearing anything.
Houyi Recurve Bow: There not much to say about this bow, its a recurve, and it functions like a recurve. There is no sight or aiming retical. the range is short, and the arrow seems to fire within a circle instead of dead on, much like in real life. For a bow that requires accuracy to get a clean kill, this should have had a retical option. It is a pretty accurate representation of a recurve, however for a video game it just makes it to difficult and inaccurate for any real use other than for people with everything unlocked and nothing better to do.
Over all its worth it for the crossbow alone, the other two weapons dont add much to the game, but they are nice to have. If you like bow hunting in this game, I highly recommend this DLC, al thought its not worth full price in my opinion, you can get it on sale for something like $2.50, which is a pretty good price.
