Tormenture Review (shyboo)
Really cool and unique concept. Having to alternate between a game world and a real world and discover how they affect each other is very fun. It leads to clever puzzles and boss fights. The added narrative of a child playing a cursed Atari game allows for some creative horror moments. The occasional FAITH-like rotoscoping is a welcome touch as well. You can even find parodies of 3D Monster Maze in here.
The Atari game itself is a labyrinth of puzzles, most of which can be fun to decode but some might be more difficult than necessary. For example, the process it takes to unlock the item needed for the good ending feels too cryptic for one of the main endings. Navigating the map can feel repetitive, as you'll have to go back and forth at times, especially if you feel lost during a puzzle. And although it seems the major bugs that initial reviews talked about were patched, there are minor bugs to look out for, such as music being absent at times and being unable to alternate to the real world during certain events when it looks like you're supposed to.
Still, it's a really cool take on retro horror that leaves a lot to explore and decode if you're willing to put in the time.
