Vertigo 2 Review (Roy-7)
TL;DR: One of the best and most polished VR games I've ever played. Must own.
As far as sequels go, this game improves upon the first in so many ways. New and interesting characters to get invested in, unique branching story paths with multiple endings, expanded world building and higher stakes, all while maintaining its sense of identity from the first game. The arsenal of weaponry has been expanded and gunplay improved significantly - but with the caveat that none of the first game's tools and weaponry exist in the same form (except for one secret unlockable). Gone is dual-wielding, as now your off-hand is permanently assigned to the new teleporter. The new teleporter no longer acts as a portal that you can peek through before teleporting, which was a cool feature before but one that I didn't really miss once I got into the game. There is already more replayability out of the box, with an entire codex to fill out and complete, and an arsenal of weapons with unique upgrades hidden throughout all the levels - not to mention a 'New Game Plus' built right into the base game. The story overall was longer and well paced and kept me on my toes the whole time, introducing many new characters to interact with (as well as bringing back and fleshing out some of the originals), all with their own motivations and personalities. Level design is amazing all throughout, with so many unique locations and biomes to visit, and tons of new enemy variations lurking around each corner to test your reaction and put your new arsenal of weapons through their paces. Each of the weapons have unique reload mechanisms, and unlike the first game, ammo is now a thing - but its been implemented really well. Your ammo stores replenish over time, so if one gun runs dry you can just switch to another and let its magazines restore in the background. This forces you to rely on your entire arsenal, rather than just sticking to your favourite or best gun, which I found beneficial as it forces you become practiced with all of them. And you will need all of them by the end of the game. The bosses you must face are all very fun and unique, and often force you to use not just your arsenal of weapons, but also your surroundings to win against, forcing you to think quick in the moment. Overall I have very few complaints about this game, it is definitely one of the best singleplayer VR games to exist so far.
