Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - Battle of Zhongyuan Review (Więcu)
Actually it is a good DLC, but I think it's too expensive for what it provides.
The DLC includes 10 new battlefields - 3 main and 7 sub, but 2 first main battlefields are really small and generic, only the last one stands out from the rest and is more interesting and fun to play. We also get 5 new bosses in total (including sub battlefields), but one of them is just a reskin of one of the bosses from the main game with some new attacks and ability to summon another two bosses from the main game. I must say that I enjoyed the boss fights. Especially the boss of the last main battlefield is pretty challenging and very enjoyable, except from one quirk. He has one very annoying attack, which causes fps to drop into teens and the game slows down dramatically making it almost impossible to dodge or parry (it definitely needs patching). I also really liked the second fight with Xu Chu (the first boss of the DLC) on one of the sub battlefields. The biggest problem is that all missions can be completed in 3-4 hours, which makes this DLC really short.
The action of the DLC takes place in the middle of the events from the main game, just after defeating Dong Zhuo. Storywise, it doesn't bring anything new into the main story and it is more focused on the person of Dian Wei. In fact storytelling is not a strong suit of Wo Long and Battle of Zhongyuan does not make it any better.
We also get a new weapon - cestuses, which are really fast but have very short range so they are particularly useful to impose status effects on enemies (they reminded me tonfas from Nioh) It is definitely a nice addition. Unfortunately, the variety of cestesuses is very limited. There is also one new divine beast, which we get after completing the last main battlefield, but I find its usefulness below average. Generally, the amount of new content is disappointingly small.
To sum up, I trully enjoyed Battle of Zhongyuan gameplaywise, especially the boss fights. Unfortunately, the amount of new content provided by this DLC does not justify its price. I can recommend it only on a discount. I hope also that the next DLC, which, assuming from the name, should be focused on Sun Ce, will be much better than this one.
