Frozenheim Review (Eulexic)
I hate to dogpile on the negative reviews for this one, but after less than two hours of playing (thankfully) I feel I've already experienced the whole game. At first I thought, "surely this is just me, my tastes are changing and this isn't hitting like it would before." But I have to echo the sentiment of other reviewers: I went into this expecting a "colony sim with rich settlement mechanics." The RTS combat bit is a given. Instead it's basically just that: a bare-bones RTS with one race. The "tribes" thing is a neat attempt, but only barely reflects something like Age of Empires, a game I felt I'd much rather be playing the entire time.
I will say that it is pretty, but it's slow, and rapidly gets boring. I think that's what they meant by "serene." To their credit as well, there are multiple game modes, but I have no desire to engage with them as the gameplay is just not there. Enemy hitboxes are difficult to click with the mouse and there is no attack-move, so even the RTS fundamentals feel wonky.
