Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands Review (Janim)
It took a while until I wanted to write this review. I have owned and played hundreds of games, and Kingdom: Two Crowns is my absolute favorite so far. I love how it poses a challenge and expects you to rise to it. This game did it in a way that made me fall in love with it.
Norse Lands is even... more in this respect. At first, I loved it, It has managed to capture the gloomy and ethereal Nordic atmosphere incredibly well. It feels like home - but with greedlings. The relics provide entirely different new ways to approach the challenges. And, the soundtrack is truly beautiful.
But, then I started to hate it. There are some big issues. One is how the shops appear... or do not appear when they should. Another is how the shield wall gets often invoked by accident when buying shields. But the worst is the berserkers. I had to conclude that they are not only useless, use of them actually compromised my kingdom when I most needed them. The shop capacity (two potions) is nowhere enough because eventually the night waves are so strong that way too many berserkers are lost every night. If you want to replenish them, you need to spend half a day buying the potions in an agonizing pace of two at a time because you have to wait for the builders to run there before you can buy more - providing they are still builders and not robbed by greed and demoted back to citizens or even beggars, in which case you need to get new hammers or even re-recruit them, and it takes both time and coins, every day. The only way to benefit from them was to not use them. That sucks, unfortunately. I liked them.
it was only when I gave up on the berserkers that I managed to get my Norse Lands game on track. I am glad that someone suggested it, and I followed the advice because this is a fantastic DLC. I love it.
Definitely recommended if you liked the base game and you want new challenges.
