Nocturnal Review ([ONS]Emanouche)
I have to play more of the game, I got passed what I played originally in the demo from STEAM Fest and a little bit more tonight.
If my experience of this game continues on for the remainder of it as it has gone for me so far, then it might be a true little hidden gem which is fantastic.
The game has some clever puzzle mechanics and during my playthrough it has been surprise after surprise and has not gotten boring. I don't want to spoil it, but let just say that it tends to drop a new enemy type often when you least expect it, which you have to learn to deal with on the fly. I had a few "Holy crap, I guess we're doing this" moment.
One big part of this game's mechanic is to keep a flame burning on your sword to keep you protected from a mist of darkness which will consume you if you stay in it too long. For example, something might happen, and you fall in the mist and realize you have only a few seconds worth of protection from your burning sword, so you have to think quickly on how to get out of it in a clever way.
After some intense platforming, it seems that the game takes you outside the dungeons, play beautiful calm music and shows you beautiful art and vistas as an in-between treat.
I don't find the game super difficult, but fair and challenging, and it did take a few retries on some sections to wrap my head around and learn how to get past them.
I'm not regretting my purchase so far. Great title.
