Northgard: Nidhogg, Clan of the Dragon Review (Nyxondra)

I tried. Believe me i tried, i tried SO hard to make this clan work. I tried so hard to like this clan because i absolutely adore anything and everything dragon related but...but Clan Nidhogg just SUCKS SO DAMN MUCH. MY GOD THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!!
Sure the thralls could be considered a neat way to get a bit more workforce for no additional housing, at the cost of them being less efficient, but the constant need to sacrifice them (or regular civilians) else your entire clan is crippled with depression and unhappiness is atrocious. The buffs you get for sacrificing sounds good on paper, but they're barely anything useful and could be offset with just spreading your territory out a little more and even then they only last a few months before they're off the charts.
Dragons are supposed to be a mythical, imposing, fire (or ice, or acid, or sand..or whatever) breathing winged lizards the size of houses or even skyscrapers (like the Wyvern you can find on some map layouts), they're supposed to bring fear into the hearts of those who witness them with their majestic looks and immense and awesome destructive power...instead Clan Nidhogg's destructive power is akin to a wet paper towel that you farted a hole into and tried to chisel a rock with. Their military might is absolutely ATROCIOUS. Only a single unit type (2 if you count the relic, 3 if you also have a warchief, but...they're so close in power you barely notice the differences, AND THEY ALL ATTACK THE SAME WAY), and they're all melee, fragile and not worth the sacrifices you need to make them, they're USELESS.
Your main fighting force will consist of a Dragonkin...yes, A dragonkin. As in ONE. You need to permanently mutilate a villager that you can't return to normal AND sacrifice 1 bar of essense to recruit them (you get 2 bars for sacrificing a human or 3 if you sacrifice a thrall), which is a big problem SINCE YOU NEED ESSENCE TO KEEP YOUR CLAN HAPPY. All for a weak, fragile unit that you can only recruite ONE OF PER BUILDING. Sure you only need ONE type of building instead of 3 but it's just not worth it!
Their lore also sucks by the way. Recruitment is fine, Thrall Trade is decent sure...but the "if your military unit is alone it has double attack power" is not just borderline, it is FLAT OUT USELESS considering the main way of fighting in Northgard is by piling on many units, which you CAN'T when you have a steep cost to make ONE unit that you can't make more of if you have nothing or noone to sacrifice to keep your essence up AND of course the whole "one per building" thing. What you get is a solo warrior with a whirlwind that kinda works like Jottun allies' AOE (but worse) that gets dogpiled by 4 wolves and OOPS YOUR ONLY UNIT IS DEAD. Oh right, and need i remind you that for the double power bonus that unit has to be ALONE in the zone? So good luck with that.
The relic sounds good on paper, pay food to get a slightly weaker than the neutral champion you can recruit Jotttun...yeah well 200 food is nothing to sneeze at for quite a long time and the whole thing has an abysmal 12 month cooldown! Yes, i understand where that idea came from, giants are a pretty sick and strong unit in any composition and having the ability to mass recruit them for food would potentially break the game....right?....right?? Well NO. Any jotnar champion can be countered by just massing Axe Throwers with any other clan. And you only need to upgrade 4 or 5 thrower camps for the upgrade attack power bonus stacks to make them as strong as a base, unupgraded warchief....Also Raven Clan says hello!
Despite the fact that DRAGONS are supposed to be imposing beasts Clann Nidhogg is a massive letdown, it is absolutely crippled by terrible designs, maddeningly stupid ideas, and the fact that their war philosophy wholly goes against the war philosophy of literally the entire game. The negative reviews are right, it's a waste of money and time, and it is an excercise in frustration and futility. AVOID!!
